What Is A Paleo Diet?
How To Do Paleo Correctly
So, if you don’t know what a Paleo diet is, I’ll just give a brief introduction. It’s pretty much a diet that’s high in fats, moderate protein, low in carbs and low in sugar. And if you want more details on that, you can go check out my other video about what is the Paleo diet.
Anyway, the first thing I noticed when I went on this diet was just the change in my mood. I’d be way happier all the time. And I was more constant. Before this, when I was on like a heavy carb diet, you’d get those blood sugar spikes and you get really grumpy and you have to go eat right away. Well, that never happened to me. My energy was just very constant. I would like not to eat for 7 hours and I’d still be happy. I have this mental clarity too. And that was probably due to less information I had but I just could think more clearly and it was a feeling that I can’t really explain too well but it was just really nice to have. And I guess one example I could kind of give you to give a better understanding of that part would be that I would kind of think of other people more often. When I go into a grocery store, I would be thinking about how the clerk’s day has been rather than just getting through the line. And I would make more conversation with that clerk that was helping me. So it was really just that kind of mental clarity.
And then the second benefit that I noticed was that I have way more energy than ever. And I had this epiphany, like, I was working out one time and most of my workouts would be about 45 minutes or up to an hour and I realized that I was working out, and it’s about 70 minutes in. And at this point, I would normally be really fatigued and exhausted but I was still working out really strong and I started noticing that the weights I was using was extremely low and I was not able to put the weight up. And I was like, “What is going on? This weight is pretty lightweight, I should be able to do this.” And it dawned on me, my muscles are literally tired. It’s not me that’s physically exhausted, it’s my muscles. I got such a good workout and because I had more energy that my muscles got that exhausted. And I still have plenty of energy. I decided to go for a run after for a few more miles. So, I just noticed that I have this abundance of energy and it was amazing. I felt like I was capable of so much more. And I even started skipping breakfast because when my body started utilizing fats as a source of energy rather than glucose, I would still have energy from my last night’s meal so it was pretty amazing.
And the next cool thing was that my constant of hunger completely changed. As I mentioned earlier, my body was using fat rather than glucose so I wouldn’t get those blood sugar spikes. And I wouldn’t have to instantly have to go find food and eat whenever that happened. And it’s really cool. You get to this point where hunger and food don’t control your life. I remember there was one time where I was like, I didn’t eat for 9 or 10 hours just because I was doing other things and I kind of forgot about it. And I started feeling a little bad. And I was like, “What’s going on? I’m not as sharp as I should be.” And then I realized, “Yeah I haven’t eaten in 9 or 10 hours. I should probably go do that.” And if I got to that point in a carb-heavy diet, I wouldn’t have made it to 9 or 10 hours and I would be way more drastically affected. I would be angry and super angry and take it out on the people around me.
And the next cool thing was I stopped craving sugar. It was really bad because before this, I would walk past an ice cream place and I had to go get it. Ice cream, desserts, fruit, all of that stuff. I just couldn’t resist. The sugar really had a control over me. And then when I went on Paleo, you have to cut out carbs which are sugar and all of this other stuff. So, basically, after the first two weeks, the first two weeks were really brutal, but after that, I didn’t have this amazing urge to go get sugar all the time. And eventually, it became unappealing to me. I would see ice cream and I would be like, “Okay. That actually doesn’t look too bomb to me anymore.
